Everything You Need to Know
How do I get to the lodge?
The lodge is remote. Most guests fly into Kigoma Airport (TKQ) and are then transferred via a scenic 2-hour boat ride on Lake Tanganyika to the lodge's private jetty.
What is the minimum age for chimpanzee trekking?
While children of all ages are welcome at the lodge, TANAPA regulations require participants for chimpanzee trekking to be at least 15 years old.
What activities can I do besides chimp trekking?
Guests can enjoy boat safaris, snorkeling and swimming in Lake Tanganyika, bird watching, hiking to Kakombe and Mkenke waterfalls, and cultural visits to local fishing villages.
Is the lodge open year-round?
Mbali Mbali Gombe is typically open year-round, but the best time for trekking is during the dry season (May to October) when chimps are easier to locate.
Are the chimpanzees easy to find?
Chimp sightings are never guaranteed as they are wild animals, but the lodge's experienced guides have a very high success rate due to the habituated nature of the Gombe troops.
