About Giraffe Manor Nairobi
Giraffe Manor is one of the world's most iconic
and photographed boutique hotels, owned and operated by The Safari Collection.
Set within a private 140-acre indigenous forest sanctuary in Nairobi's Langata
suburb, the historic 1930s Scottish hunting lodge-style manor is famous for its
resident herd of endangered Nubian (Rothschild's) giraffes — who freely roam
the grounds and make unforgettable appearances at breakfast windows and during
afternoon tea. Comprising the original Historic Manor and the newer Garden
Manor, the property offers 12 individually decorated rooms exuding colonial-era
elegance with four-poster beds, antique furnishings, and lush garden views.
Giraffe Manor is consistently one of Africa's most sought-after properties and
is typically booked 9–18 months in advance. Rates are fully all-inclusive.

Everything You Need to Know
How far in advance should I book Giraffe Manor?
Giraffe Manor is one of the world's most in-demand boutique hotels. Prime rooms (particularly Betty's Room and Daisy's Room in the Historic Manor) are often fully booked 12–18 months in advance for peak season. Even non-peak periods see availability being taken 6–9 months ahead. It is strongly recommended to book as early as possible, particularly if you have specific room preferences.
Is Giraffe Manor only accessible to overnight hotel guests?
Yes. Giraffe Manor is a private property and is not open to day visitors. Only overnight guests and their visitors have access to the manor, the resident giraffes, and all on-site facilities. However, The Retreat at Giraffe Manor (next door) offers Day Passes and Day Rooms that include pool and spa access for non-overnight visitors.
Which rooms offer the best giraffe interaction at Giraffe Manor?
The rooms in the Historic Manor — particularly those facing the main gardens — offer the most direct and iconic giraffe window interactions during breakfast. Betty's Room and Daisy's Room are especially famous for giraffe-at-the-window encounters. Both the Historic Manor and Garden Manor guests enjoy giraffe encounters at their respective breakfast rooms and shared garden areas.
Do I need to combine Giraffe Manor with other Safari Collection properties?
In most cases, yes. Giraffe Manor is part of The Safari Collection portfolio and the usual booking requirement is to combine your stay with at least one other Safari Collection property such as Sasaab (Samburu), Sala's Camp (Maasai Mara), or Solio Lodge. Exceptions may apply during low season. Contact The Safari Collection reservations team for current booking policies.
What are the giraffe interaction times at Giraffe Manor?
The resident Nubian giraffe herd typically visits the manor during morning breakfast and afternoon tea times, when guests can hand-feed them pellets from the breakfast tables and verandahs. Giraffe interactions are not guaranteed at specific times as the animals roam freely, but morning and afternoon visits are the norm. The AFEW Giraffe Centre (nearby) is included in the all-inclusive rate for additional giraffe experiences.
