Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp

Cottar's operates within the Olderkesi Conservancy, the only exclusively private-use conservancy in the Maasai Mara ecosystem. This means no tourist vehicle congestion at wildlife sightings, off-road driving capabilities, night drives, and guided bush walks — activities not permitted in the national reserve. The camp is also run by the Cottar family, Africa's longest-serving safari family (5 generations, 100+ years), with three Gold-level nationally certified guides on staff.

Yes. Cottar's is one of Kenya's most family-friendly luxury camps. Children of all ages are welcome, and those under 5 stay free. Children aged 15 and under receive discounted rates. Family Tents have two bedrooms and a living room with fireplace. Families in Family Tents receive a complimentary private vehicle and guide. The Maasai Warrior School offers children traditional Maasai skills, games, and cultural activities with local guides.

Cottar's 1920s Camp accommodates up to 28 guests in 11 tented suites with shared communal dining and facilities. The Bush Villa is a completely separate, contemporary African house that is booked exclusively for a single party, accommodating up to 10 guests across 5 en-suite bedrooms. The Bush Villa comes with its own private 25m swimming pool, 8 dedicated staff (including a private host, butler, chef, and game guide), and a dedicated game drive vehicle.

Cottar's co-manages the Olderkesi Group Ranch with the local Purko Maasai clan, holding exclusive tourism rights while helping maintain the land in pristine condition. The camp has one of the highest Big Five success rates due to the untouched nature of the ecosystem. Cottar's also uses a reverse osmosis water filtration system, avoids single-use plastics, supports local Maasai female artisans through its boutique shop, and runs community conservation education programmes.

Rates include accommodation, all meals (including bush breakfasts and candlelit dinners), selected cocktails and beverages, day and night game drives in the private Olderkesi Conservancy, guided bush walks, and cultural Maasai village visits. Additional costs include: hot-air balloon safaris, helicopter flights, champagne, premium reserve wines, conservancy and park fees, and personal expenses.
