About Hôtel des Mille Collines
Inaugurated in 1973, Hôtel des
Mille Collines stands as Rwanda's most historic and iconic hotel, deriving its
name from the country's famed sobriquet — "the Land of a Thousand
Hills." Situated in the heart of Kigali's Central Business District, this
landmark property gained international renown when it provided sanctuary to
over 1,268 people during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi — a story
immortalised in the film Hotel Rwanda (2004). Today, the hotel has evolved into
a distinguished 4-star retreat that seamlessly blends historical significance
with modern comfort. Guests enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Kigali's
rolling hills from spacious, air-conditioned rooms appointed with Egyptian
cotton sheets, premium bedding, and private balconies. The property features
three restaurants offering culinary journeys from casual fare to fine dining,
international cuisine, and local Rwandan specialities. An outdoor swimming
pool, fitness centre, tennis court, spa services, evening entertainment, and a
fully equipped business centre make this hotel suitable for both leisure and
corporate travellers. A souvenir shop, concierge, and multilingual staff
complete the guest experience at this irreplaceable Kigali institution.
