About Kosovo Camp
Kosovo Camp is a rugged, wind-exposed site located on a steep, rocky slope. Unlike the sprawling and often noisy Barafu Camp below, Kosovo is much smaller and quieter. Because it sits roughly 120 meters higher than Barafu, it cuts nearly an hour off the grueling midnight summit trek. The environment is extreme—desolate, cold, and alpine desert—but the advantage for the final push to Uhuru Peak is unmatched.

Everything You Need to Know
Why stay at Kosovo Camp instead of Barafu?
Staying at Kosovo reduces your summit night hiking time by about 60 minutes. It is also significantly quieter, allowing for better rest before the midnight start.
Does every trekking company use Kosovo Camp?
No. Many standard operators only have permits for Barafu. Kosovo requires a specialized permit and extra effort from porters to carry gear and water higher up.
How cold does it get at Kosovo Camp?
It is one of the coldest camps. Expect temperatures between $-5^\circ C$ and $-15^\circ C$ ($23^\circ F$ to $5^\circ F$) before wind chill is factored in.
Can I get altitude sickness at Kosovo?
The risk is higher here than at Barafu due to the increased elevation. It is critical to monitor your oxygen levels and heart rate closely at this camp.
