About Mweka Camp
Mweka Camp is a place of celebration and relief. Situated in the giant heather zone just above the rainforest, it offers a much milder climate than the high-altitude camps. The air is oxygen-rich, and the landscape is lush with greenery. It is famous for the "Tipping Ceremony," where trekking groups typically gather to thank their crew of porters, cooks, and guides on the final morning before the last walk to the park gate.

Everything You Need to Know
How do we reach Mweka Camp?
Most trekkers reach Mweka after summiting Uhuru Peak and descending back through Barafu Camp. It is a long day of walking, often totaling 12–15 hours of movement.
Is there cell phone reception at Mweka?
Yes, Mweka Camp generally has much more reliable mobile signal (and sometimes data) than the higher camps due to its proximity to Mweka Village.
Can we see the summit from here?
No, the dense forest and the angle of the southern slopes usually obscure the summit. However, you can often see the lights of Moshi town below.
Is it still cold at Mweka Camp?
It is much warmer than the summit, but it can be very damp. Rain is frequent in this zone, so keeping your gear dry inside the tent is a priority.
