About Horombo Hut
Horombo is the only camp on the Marangu Route where trekkers typically spend two nights (one for acclimatization). The landscape is dotted with giant lobelias and groundsels, and on clear days, it offers breathtaking views of the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. It is often called the "village" of Kilimanjaro because of its size and the relative comfort of its permanent structures compared to tented camps.

Everything You Need to Know
Why do most people spend two nights at Horombo?
To "climb high, sleep low." On the second day, trekkers usually hike toward Zebra Rocks or the Mawenzi Hut (4,300m) and return to Horombo to sleep, which greatly improves summit success.
Can I buy supplies at Horombo?
Occasionally, porters or rangers may have sodas or snacks for sale, but this is not guaranteed. It is best to bring all necessary snacks with you.
Is there running water?
Yes, there is piped water at the washrooms, though it is very cold. All drinking water is collected and treated by your kitchen crew.
How cold does it get?
Nighttime temperatures frequently drop below freezing ($0^\circ C$ or $32^\circ F$). The huts are not insulated or heated, so a high-quality sleeping bag is required.
