About Simba Camp
Simba Camp is often utilized by operators looking to provide a "private" feel to their treks. It sits in a transition zone where the dense montane forest begins to thin out into the heath. The camp is smaller than the main hubs and offers a peaceful setting with fewer groups. It provides an excellent vantage point for watching the sunset over the western plains of Tanzania and toward the Shira Ridge.

Everything You Need to Know
Is Simba Camp crowded?
No, it is significantly quieter than Shira 1 or Mti Mkubwa. It is a preferred choice for hikers seeking solitude during the early stages of their climb.
What is the terrain like around the camp?
It is a mix of tall trees and the beginning of the moorland shrubs. The ground can be damp due to the proximity to the forest zone.
Does every Rongai trek stop here?
No. Most standard itineraries go straight to Mti Mkubwa or Shira 1. Stopping at Simba is usually part of a customized or slower-paced itinerary.
Can we see the peak from here?
The summit is often still obscured by the Shira Ridge and forest canopy, but the stars and the western horizon views are exceptional.
