Onguma The Fort
Etosha National Park in northern Namibia. $500 – $1,100+
About Onguma The Fort
Unlike any other property in Namibia, Onguma The Fort is built with massive stone-clad walls, raw textures, and a large central tower, combining a distinct Moroccan and Indian design flair with classical African warmth. The central complex features a stone courtyard with massive water features, an indoor/outdoor restaurant, a wine cellar, and a grand viewing deck facing an exceptionally active waterhole. Because the reserve acts as a registered Black Rhino Custodian, the property offers elite, low-crowd big-game tracking alongside arguably the finest African sunset views over the Etosha Pan basin.

Everything You Need to Know
Why does the lodge have a restriction against young children?
Onguma The Fort is entirely unfenced, meaning large carnivores, elephants, and rhinos roam freely past the wooden decks and suites. To maintain a safe and quiet bush environment, children under the age of 7 are strictly not permitted. Families with younger children are warmly directed to their sister property, Onguma Bush Camp.
What is the Onkolo Hide experience on the reserve?
The Onkolo Hide is a purpose-built, water-level shelter hidden on the reserve. It allows wildlife photographers and enthusiasts to sit safely at eye level with drinking animals, birdlife, and predators without disrupting their natural behaviors.
Are conservation or rhino levies included in the package rates?
No. To directly fund the heavily armed anti-poaching teams tasked with guarding the reserve's endangered black rhino population, a mandatory Rhino Conservation Levy of roughly $15–$18 USD (NAD 275) per person, per night is charged separately and paid directly upon check-out.
Is it necessary to drive a 4x4 to reach the property?
No, a 4x4 vehicle is not required. The entry roads traveling from the paved C38 highway into the main gates of the Onguma Nature Reserve consist of well-maintained gravel paths easily navigated by standard 2WD vehicles.
