About Damara Mopane Lodge
Part of the innovative Gondwana Collection Namibia, Damara Mopane Lodge is uniquely designed to mirror a historical African kingdom. The lodge features a creative, semi-circular layout where a labyrinth of stone walkways links individual chalets to a massive central swimming pool. Its defining and whimsical hallmark is that every single chalet is enclosed by its own private garden oasis growing fresh beets, spinach, and towering sunflowers, guarded by creative, hand-built scarecrows. The fresh vegetables harvested directly outside the guest room doors are used daily in the lodge’s open-plan buffet kitchen.

Everything You Need to Know
What is the significance of the private vegetable gardens?
The lodge uses an innovative eco-concept where each chalet acts as a personal plot for the kitchen. Guests can sit on their front veranda (stoep) and look out over lines of fresh beetroot, herbs, and local sunflowers. The kitchen harvests these ingredients daily, directly contributing to the lodge's sustainable farm-to-table dining model.
How do guests typically spend the late afternoon at the lodge?
The absolute highlight of the day is the unguided or escorted Sundowner Walk. Guests ascend a well-marked wooden trail up a nearby dolomite hill to an elevated viewing platform. From there, you get a 360-degree view of the vast mopane woodland and the fan-shaped lodge layout while sipping on refreshments.
What major Namibian tourist attractions are nearby for day trips?
The lodge serves as an ideal base camp for regional sightseeing. Within a 1 to 2-hour drive, guests can easily visit the UNESCO World Heritage rock engravings at Twyfelfontein, the geological wonders of the Petrified Forest, the Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain, and the towering Vingerklip rock needle.
Is the lodge safe for families traveling with young children?
Yes, the property is fully fenced, flat, and highly welcoming to children of all ages. To accommodate larger families comfortably, the lodge offers several specially built interleading twin chalets connected by a lockable interior door.
