Which gorilla families can I trek from here?
Ruhija is home to the Bitukura, Oruzogo, and Kyaguriro families. Bakiga Lodge is one of the closest and most comfortable bases for accessing these groups.
Is it good for bird watching?
Yes. Ruhija is widely considered the best sector in Bwindi for birding. The lodge's position on the ridge makes it easy to spot several Albertine Rift endemics right from your balcony.
Is there a project visit available?
Absolutely. Guests can visit the Bakiga Community Project sites to see how the lodge's revenue is being used to build water tanks and improve sanitation in the nearby villages.
How is the road access?
The road to Ruhija is famously scenic but can be bumpy. A 4x4 vehicle is essential. The lodge is easily accessible from Kabale (approx. 2 hours) or Buhoma (approx. 2.5 hours).
How do I handle the cold?
Ruhija is at a higher altitude than other sectors. The lodge provides cozy fireplaces in the main area and hot water bottles in your bed to ensure you stay warm throughout the night.
