Everything You Need to Know
How close is the lodge to the gorillas?
The lodge is within walking distance (approx. 5–10 minutes) of the Rushaga UWA briefing point. This is the sector with the highest number of habituated gorilla families, making it the most popular spot for trekking.
Can I trek from Kigali?
Yes. Due to its southern location, many guests fly into Kigali International Airport in Rwanda and take a 4-5 hour scenic drive across the Cyanika or Gatuna border. This is often more convenient than the 9-hour drive from Entebbe.
Does the lodge provide trekking gear?
While you should bring your own hiking boots, the lodge provides walking sticks and can assist in hiring porters at the briefing point to carry your bags and help with the terrain.
Is there electricity for charging cameras?
Yes. The lodge utilizes solar power with a backup generator. Charging points are available in the rooms, though it is always recommended to charge devices while the generator is running in the evening.
What other activities are nearby?
Beyond gorilla trekking, guests can enjoy Batwa Cultural Experiences, guided bird-watching walks in the forest, and visits to local community schools and hospitals supported by the lodge.
