About Ruzizi Tented Lodge
Ruzizi Tented Lodge is a classic,
conservation-focused eco-lodge perched on the forested shores of Lake Ihema —
Rwanda's second-largest lake — inside Akagera National Park. Opened in 2012 and
managed by African Parks (a not-for-profit conservation organisation), the
lodge was Rwanda's first tented camp of its kind. Its nine en-suite safari
tents are raised on stone plinths and hidden among swaying palms and fig trees,
connected by elevated wooden boardwalks to a thatched reception, lounge, dining
area, and a spectacular deck that juts out over the lake. All profits are
returned directly into conservation and community initiatives. The lodge is
entirely solar-powered, practises strict water-conservation measures, and
incorporates hand-crafted furniture and décor created by local artisans and
cooperatives. With a maximum capacity of just 20 guests, it offers an intimate,
authentic, and environmentally responsible safari retreat.
