Kazinga Channel Boat Ride (Queen Elizabeth NP)
Mweya Peninsula, Queen Elizabeth National Park. 2 Hours
Experience Overview
The boat departs from the Mweya Peninsula and cruises slowly along the banks of the channel. This "water safari" offers a unique vantage point that traditional game drives cannot match. You will move within meters of massive pods of hippos and solitary Nile crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks. During the dry season, the shoreline becomes a bustling hub for elephants, buffaloes, and waterbucks that come down to drink and bathe. For bird enthusiasts, the channel is a paradise, featuring over 60 species frequently seen on a single trip, including the African Skimmer, Great White Pelicans, and the iconic African Fish Eagle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which side of the boat is best for viewing?
Most captains will cruise down one bank and return along the other, ensuring that passengers on both sides of the boat get a clear view of the wildlife.
Is there a restroom on the boat?
The larger UWA boats usually have a basic marine toilet on board, but it is best to use the facilities at the Mweya Visitor Center before boarding.
Can we see the Shoebill Stork here?
While the Kazinga Channel has incredible birdlife, the Shoebill is rarely seen here. For the Shoebill, the Mabamba Swamp near Entebbe or the Lake Albert Delta in Murchison Falls are better locations.
Is it safe?
Yes. The boats are large and stable, and the hippos and crocodiles are accustomed to the sound of the engines. Professional UWA rangers are on board to provide information and ensure safety.
