Experience Serengeti National Park

Spanning 14,763 square kilometers, the Serengeti (derived from the Maasai word Siringet, meaning "endless plains") is the heart of a massive ecosystem that includes the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Kenya’s Maasai Mara. The park is characterized by its diverse habitats: the short-grass plains of the south, the acacia woodlands of the center, the hilly northern highlands, and the "Western Corridor" defined by the Grumeti River. It is home to the highest concentration of large predators on earth and offers a glimpse into a prehistoric world where nature remains entirely in balance. The park is divided into several sectors, each offering a distinct experience depending on the movement of the migratory herds.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to see the wildebeest crossing the river?
Usually from July to August at the Grumeti River and September to October at the Mara River. However, the timing depends entirely on the rainfall and the movement of the herds.
Can I see the Big Five in the Serengeti?
Yes, although the Black Rhino is rare and mostly confined to the northern reaches or the Moru Kopjes area. The other four are very commonly sighted.
Is it safe to stay in a tented camp?
Yes. Tented camps are designed for safety, but because they are unfenced, wildlife may wander through at night. You will always be escorted by a guard after dark.
Do I need a 4x4 for the Serengeti?
Absolutely. The roads are unpaved, dusty, and can become very muddy during the rains. A 4x4 with a pop-up roof is the standard for the best viewing and safety.
How many days should I spend in the Serengeti?
To truly appreciate the scale and different regions of the park, a minimum of 3 to 4 days is recommended.
