Trip Overview
For the traveller who craves
authenticity over luxury, the 6-Day Mokoro Adventure Trip is a deeply immersive
journey into the heart of Botswana's most celebrated wildernesses. Starting
from Maun — the 'gateway to the Okavango' — this safari combines two of
Botswana's greatest destinations: the ethereal waterways of the Okavango Delta
and the legendary wildlife corridors of Moremi Game Reserve.
This is a participation camping
safari, where guests become true partners in the bush experience — helping set
up camp, stoking fires, and living as the early explorers did. Far from a
hardship, this hands-on approach fosters a profound connection with the
wilderness that no luxury lodge can replicate. Accommodation is in dome tents
on designated campsites, with sleeping bags and towels provided.
The centrepiece of the Delta
experience is the iconic mokoro excursion — drifting silently through narrow
papyrus-lined channels in a traditional dugout canoe, guided by expert local
polers who read the waterways like a book. Island nature walks reveal the
Delta's extraordinary flora and smaller fauna. In Moremi, daily game drives
deliver the 'Big Five' potential that makes Botswana a global safari benchmark.
This is Botswana without the filter — raw, wild, and magnificent.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Upon arrival at Maun, you will be met by a representative and transferred to Cresta Maun for your pre-safari overnight stay. The remainder of the day is at leisure — a perfect opportunity to explore Maun's local craft markets, enjoy the restaurant, or simply relax and prepare for the extraordinary journey into the Okavango Delta that begins the following morning. Meals at the hotel on this day are at your own expense.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does 'participation camping' mean?
On a participation safari, guests assist with light camp duties such as pitching tents and helping at mealtimes. This creates a deeply immersive bush experience and a wonderful sense of camaraderie among the group. It is not physically demanding — the focus remains firmly on the wildlife experience.
Is this trip suitable for solo travellers?
Solo bookings are not available on this package (minimum 2 people sharing). However, you may be able to join a departing group — contact us for available dates and group spaces.
Do I need camping experience?
No prior camping experience is necessary. Your professional guide and camp staff will show you everything you need to know. An open mind and a spirit of adventure are all that's required.
Is the mokoro safe with hippos and crocodiles present?
Yes. Your mokoro poler is a highly experienced local guide with extensive knowledge of the Delta's waterways and wildlife behaviour. Hippos and crocodiles are treated with great respect and are safely observed from an appropriate distance. Thousands of guests have enjoyed mokoro excursions safely each year
What camping facilities are available?
A: Campsites have basic bathroom facilities. Sleeping bags, dome tents, and towels are all provided. The experience is authentic bush camping rather than glamping, but all essential comforts are catered for.
What happens if weather affects the safari?
Botswana's climate is generally very stable during the dry safari season. In the event of unexpected weather, your professional guide will adapt activities to ensure maximum safety and the best possible wildlife experience
