Trip Overview
This 4-day Zimbabwe adventure is
thoughtfully designed to deliver two of Africa's most iconic experiences in a
single, seamless journey. Based at the comfortable and centrally located Shrub
Lodge in Victoria Falls town, you will begin with a magical sunset cruise along
the Zambezi River — watching hippos, crocodiles, and elephants gather at the
water's edge as the African sky blazes with colour.
Day two takes you deep into Hwange National
Park, Zimbabwe's crown jewel of wildlife conservation. Covering more than
14,600 square kilometres of diverse wilderness, Hwange is legendary for its
enormous elephant herds — often exceeding 40,000 individuals — alongside lions,
leopards, wild dogs, and over 400 bird species. Your expert local guide will
lead you through prime game-viewing terrain during a comprehensive full-day
drive, sharing their deep knowledge of animal behaviour and the park's ecology.
Day three brings you face to face with the
awe-inspiring Victoria Falls itself. A knowledgeable guide will escort you
through the misty rainforest trails, past the ancient Big Tree baobab, to the
most spectacular viewpoints over the falls. The afternoon is yours to fill with
optional helicopter flights, cultural village visits, bungee jumping, or a
leisurely browse through craft markets.
This safari offers exceptional value,
combining world-class natural wonders, expert guiding, comfortable
accommodation, and authentic Zimbabwe experiences in a compact, action-packed
itinerary that leaves guests with memories to last a lifetime.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Upon arrival at Victoria Falls International Airport, you are warmly welcomed by your guide holding a personalised name placard and transferred to The Shrub Lodge — a charming property nestled in the heart of Victoria Falls town. After check-in and time to refresh, you join a relaxing two-hour sunset cruise on the mighty Zambezi River, one of Africa's most iconic waterways. Glide past hippos wallowing in the shallows, crocodiles basking on sandbars, and elephants descending to drink as the sun paints the sky in vivid shades of gold and crimson. Cold drinks and light snacks accompany the experience. Following the cruise, enjoy dinner at the lodge or explore one of Victoria Falls' excellent local restaurants at your own leisure

Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Hwange National Park from Victoria Falls, and how do we travel there?
Hwange National Park is approximately 100 km (about 1.5 hours by road) from Victoria Falls. You will depart early in the morning at around 6:30 AM in a comfortable safari vehicle with your professional guide. The scenic drive itself passes through characteristic Zimbabwe bush and is part of the experience.
Will we definitely see the Big Five on the Hwange game drive?
Hwange is one of Africa's finest wildlife parks and regularly delivers excellent sightings of elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and wild dog. While no safari can guarantee specific sightings — as wildlife roams freely — your experienced guide will use expert tracking skills and knowledge of the park to maximise your chances. Many guests encounter all five iconic species in a single day.
Is this safari suitable for first-time visitors to Africa?
Absolutely. This 4-day itinerary is perfectly structured for first-time Africa travellers. The activities are accessible, the distances manageable, and the combination of Victoria Falls and Hwange provides an incredible introduction to Zimbabwe's signature attractions. Your professional guide will ensure you feel comfortable and informed throughout.
What is the best time of year for this particular safari?
The dry season from May to October offers the best game viewing in Hwange as wildlife concentrates around waterholes. Victoria Falls is most spectacular in April–May when the Zambezi is in full flood. The October–November period offers a wonderful balance — excellent game viewing and still-impressive falls. The tour runs year-round.
What optional activities are available in Victoria Falls during the free afternoon on Day 3?
Victoria Falls offers an extraordinary range of optional experiences including helicopter flights over the falls (the famous 'Flight of Angels'), bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge, white-water rafting on the Zambezi, sunset river cruises, cultural village tours, guided kayaking, and browsing the vibrant local craft markets. Your guide or lodge concierge can arrange any of these on request.
