Trip Overview
For the traveller who craves both wildlife spectacle and
active adventure, this 8-day mid-range safari is Kenya's most dynamic and
exciting offering. Designed for those who want more than a passive seat in a
safari vehicle, this package layers authentic wildlife encounters with
thrilling outdoor experiences that push you deeper into the African landscape.
Your adventure begins in Amboseli National Park, where the
iconic silhouette of Mount Kilimanjaro provides a staggering backdrop for
encounters with some of Africa's largest elephant herds. Two full days here
allow unhurried exploration of the park's marshlands, open plains, and seasonal
swamps where elephants, lions, buffaloes, and zebras roam freely.
From Amboseli, you travel to Lake Naivasha — but not before
enjoying a memorable lunch at Nairobi's famous Carnivore Restaurant, a
legendary institution beloved by Kenyans and visitors alike. At Naivasha, the
pace shifts beautifully with a boat safari among hippos and herons and a
walking safari on Crescent Island.
The real adventure kicks in at Hell's Gate National Park — one
of Kenya's most uniquely accessible parks. Here, you cycle or walk through
dramatic basalt gorges, past geothermal steam vents, and alongside zebras,
giraffes, and buffaloes roaming the volcanic landscape without fences. It is
one of Africa's most exhilarating outdoor experiences.
Lake Nakuru's rhinos, flamingos, and tree-climbing lions await
before the ultimate destination: the Masai Mara National Reserve. Three full
days in Kenya's most celebrated wildlife reserve give you maximum time with
lions, cheetahs, leopards, and vast herds of plains game. For the grandest
perspective of all, an optional hot-air balloon safari at sunrise — now with
20% off for bookings before 30 June — lifts you above the golden savannah for
an aerial panorama that will define your African adventure.
All this, delivered through hand-selected mid-range Sopa
Lodges offering excellent comfort, superb food, and prime wildlife locations —
ensuring you spend maximum time in the bush and minimum time on the road.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Your adventure begins with pick-up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or your Nairobi accommodation before departing for spectacular Amboseli National Park — a journey south through acacia scrubland as the outline of Mount Kilimanjaro slowly fills the horizon. Arrive at Amboseli Sopa Lodge — a beautifully appointed mid-range property just outside the park — for lunch and relaxation before heading out for your first afternoon game drive through acacia woodlands, open plains, freshwater swamps, and scrublands. Amboseli is famous for its breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, providing an extraordinary cinematic backdrop for all wildlife sightings. During your game drive, watch for elephants crossing the marshes, giraffes feeding on acacia canopies, cheetahs scanning for prey across the open plains, and an abundant diversity of birdlife. Return to the lodge at sunset for a delicious dinner and restful overnight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is cycling at Hell's Gate safe with wild animals nearby?
Yes, cycling at Hell's Gate is a well-established, safe activity conducted daily by thousands of visitors. The park's wildlife — zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs — are habituated to cyclists and generally unperturbed. There are no lions or leopards inside Hell's Gate, making it uniquely safe for walking and cycling. Bicycle hire is available inside the park gate, and your driver-guide will accompany you for safety and guidance.
What is the hot-air balloon safari experience like?
The Masai Mara hot-air balloon safari is one of Africa's most iconic and extraordinary experiences. You rise before dawn to meet your balloon crew, inflate the balloon at first light, and float silently above the savannah as the African sun rises over the horizon. Below you, wildlife goes about its morning business — lions returning from hunts, elephants moving across the plains, hippos in the rivers. The flight lasts approximately 60–90 minutes and is followed by a traditional champagne bush breakfast. Absolutely unforgettable. Book before 30 June to receive 20% off.
What are the Sopa Lodges like?
Sopa Lodges are an excellent mid-range safari lodge brand operating in Kenya's most iconic destinations. Each property features spacious ensuite rooms or cottages, swimming pools, restaurant and bar facilities, wi-fi in common areas, and beautifully maintained gardens. They are located in prime positions close to park gates, ensuring maximum time for game drives. Sopa Lodges consistently receive excellent ratings for their food quality, service standards, and wildlife proximity.
Can I combine this safari with a Nairobi city tour or Mombasa beach extension?
Absolutely! We can seamlessly add a Nairobi city tour (Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Karen Blixen Museum) before or after your safari, or extend your adventure with a stunning beach extension at Diani Beach, Watamu, or Lamu on the Kenyan coast. Contact us for customised extension packages.
What is the vehicle like for the safari?
All game drives are conducted in purpose-built, custom 4x4 Land Cruiser or Land Rover safari vehicles with pop-up roof hatches for optimal game viewing and photography, large windows on all sides, and comfortable padded seating. Vehicles carry a maximum of 6–7 passengers for a non-crowded, personalised experience. Each vehicle is equipped with a first aid kit, communication equipment, and bottled water.
What vaccinations or health preparations do I need?
We recommend consulting your GP or a travel health clinic at least 6–8 weeks before departure. Common recommendations for Kenya include: Yellow Fever vaccination (required if arriving from endemic countries), anti-malarial prophylaxis, Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and ensuring routine vaccinations are up to date. All lodges use treated water; we also provide bottled drinking water throughout the safari.
